First FP7 call open
On 22 December 2006, the Commission published the first call for proposals under FP7. Among the research objectives addressed by this call are also Digital libraries and technology-enhanced learning (see work programme 2007–2008, Challenge 4, Objective 1).
Before submitting a proposal, please read the work programme in order to check if your project idea corresponds to the type of research to be funded in 2007-2008.
More information on the new call will be provided at the information days in Luxembourg on 24–25 January 2007 and on the ICT proposer's day in Cologne, Germany, on 1 February 2007. Click on the links to learn more about the information days.

European Union in 2007
Bulgaria and Romania joined the European Union at the midnight of 1 January 2007.
On the same date Germany assumed the Presidency of the European Union for the next six months.
Last, but not least Slovenia adopted the euro as its official currency on 1 January 2007.

Conference on Digital Libraries
The DELOS Network of Excellence will organise a conference on digital libraries on 13–14 February 2007 in Pisa, Italy.
DELOS members will present the latest research results and new technology development in those research areas where they have focussed their activities in the last few years. The conference is also intended to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas. A special session will be devoted to preserving and advancing links with other European networks and initiatives, including The European Library .

Programme Culture announced
On 27 December 2006 the new programme Culture was announced for years 2007–2013. The programme has a budget of 400 million euros and will provide co-funding for European co-operation initiatives, translations of literature and special cultural events.
